Picasso, Matisse, and Early Twentieth-Century Modern Art

Join this classroom voyage highlighting the Kimbell Art Museumís special exhibition The Age of Picasso and Matisse: Modern Masters from The Art Institute of Chicago. We will explore works in the exhibition as well as those by other artists that helped define modern art in the first half of the twentieth century. Both the course and the exhibition will guide students through the major developments of Fauvism, Cubism, Expressionism, abstract art, Dada and Surrealism, all of which changed the direction of art history and continue to reverberate through contemporary art. While this course provides an excellent introduction to the exhibition, a museum visit to the Kimbell is not included in the class schedule.
