Explore the history of modern and contemporary painting and sculpture, with a particular focus on outstanding works in the collection of Dallas' own encyclopedic museum. We will view and discuss works from the mid-nineteenth to late twentieth centuries, including examples of Impressionism and Post Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and abstraction. We'll also investigate American art from the 1850s through the twentieth century, with special attention to Texas Regional Art, and post-World War II contemporary works from around the world. After two introductory classroom meetings, we will spend the final session in the galleries and sculpture garden of the DMA.
