Narrative Nonfiction: The Proposal

You who have that book idea, the idea that just won’t let you go, take this course to sort out how to tell the true story. In nonfiction you need a proposal for agents and editors, not a complete manuscript. In the first four weeks, using the dramatic techniques of fiction, you’ll map out the plot, define whose story it is, and write the first three chapters. The next four weeks are distance learning, where you’ll work independently, working one on one with your instructor. The last four weeks, in class, you’ll polish the story and work on building your marketing platform. At the end of the 12-week course you could have a proposal ready to submit to an agent!
