Shakespeare: The Great Plays - King Lear

Considered one of Shakespeare's greatest works, King Lear is a towering masterpiece that begins when the aging King foolishly divides his kingdom among his three daughters. The tragedy and agonies that follow drive Lear to madness, but they have the paradoxical effect of bringing him deep insights into his own shortcomings and into the human condition. We will read and discuss this monumental play and will consider various interpretations of King Lear performed on stage and screen.
